offering
- rebecca y. lee

He reaches, plucks
silver gleamings of
moonlit speckles
from acorns half-birthed on high

creates swirls
of spent copper seeds--
ritual vulnerability

Feet planted firmly, his body
explodes—collapses fireworks
from boiling earthquake rumbles

tectonic cracks spurt magma--
a final shudder
and his skin subsides

Another sacrifice
for Earth Mother
complete.

gluttony
- rebecca y. lee

Only the wicked walk through life innocuous,
unscathed and unafraid
murderers in broad daylight

But imagine them—driving thick
through orchid dreams--
taken to Persephone

She’d laugh and laugh
feed them pomegranate seeds

Watch as their faces turned inside out
boiling pustules below the surface

Aching to break away
